rochester cahan
nickname: Rock, Integral
date of birth: 19 June 1982
titles: 1996 Secondary Schools Men's Epee, 1997 Secondary Schools Men's Foil, 2000 Wellington Grade A. (Man, that's a pretty bare cupboard when you stop to think about it! Time to start winning.)
results: World Youth Games 1998, Moscow: 32nd Men's epee, 48th Men's foil. 1999 Nationals: 3rd, Men's epee. 2000 Challenge Australia: 48th Men's epee. 2000 PNIFE: 3rd Men's epee.
national ranking: 3rd Men's epee. 12th Men's foil.
world ranking: 232 (?)
best fencing moment: Beating number 1 seed Patrick Snyder (USA) 15-12 at the World Youth Games as number 64 seed to advance to the last 32. Beating world number 17 Daniel Strigel (GER) 5-1 at Challenge Australia. And of course my glorious 25th place at 2000 Nationals after a superb run where I lost all my bouts (hahahah).
best thing about fencing: The tactical aspects. I like the way that it is the mind that is most important.
worst thing about fencing: Losing to someone you know you "should" beat purely because of the mistakes you make.
years fencing: 8
greatest fencing influences: John Bowen, Wes Patzer (both my US coaches), Pam French, Lynette Roberts.
weapons fenced: Foil, Epee
other interests: NHL Ice Hockey, Motorsport, Hackey, Pipebands (snare drum), art/design, web design, Counterstrike, mathematics and theoretical physics, road cycling.
personal info: In my other life I'm an 18 year old student at Massey Uni in Palmy. I'm studying for a BBS/BSc double degree majoring in mathematical physics and finance. I work part-time doing graphic design and web design. Of course I waste much time online doing things like designing and running this webpage and playing the world's greatest computer game - CounterStrike.
